Delray Beach, Florida  – The BrainStim Health and TMS Center announced they are now providing treatment with the NeuroStar® Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy system. The NeuroStar TMS Therapy system is a non-invasive, non-drug medical device cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder.*

"We are excited to be providing NeuroStar TMS Therapy and to be a part of this major step forward in psychiatry,” said Dr. Darryl Appleton.  “Many patients with this debilitating disease do not benefit from and/or are intolerant of antidepressant medications.  When these medications don’t work, some patients attempt to self-medicate rather than treat the underlying issues of depression.  Now, we have another treatment option for our patients:  the first and only non-systemic and non-invasive treatment for depression.”           

"TMS is one of a new class of treatments called neuromodulation.  These therapies focus an intervention on a specific area of the nervous system and therefore avoid the side effects that medications can produce throughout the body,” explained Dr. Robert Friedman.  He added, “In addition to their proven use for depression,  they are being evaluated for chronic pain (especially that due to nerve damage), fibromyalgia, migraine, stroke rehabilitation, and tinnitus.  The BrainStim physicians and staff are looking forward to bringing other types of brain stimulation therapies to South Florida in the future.”
